Application, receipts and underwriting
Company functions span underwriting, service, policy changes and claims. Application and premium receipts may be conditional or binding—read when cover starts. Substandard outcomes may load or exclude; loading is pricing, not a prophecy you will claim. Confirm the delivery address so rights notices are not lost.
Cooling-off, replacement, FNA and illustrations
Long-term cooling-off (often taught with GL29) is commonly framed as 21 calendar days from earlier delivery of the policy or cooling-off notice. Many regular-premium life policies refund 100% of premiums; some single-premium/linked styles may allow market-value adjustment—check class and pre-sale disclosure. Replacement restarts contestable/suicide clocks and incurs new acquisition costs—needs a documented reason. FNA (GL30 theme) checks objectives, affordability and willingness; refusing needed facts generally blocks recommendations. Illustrations must separate guaranteed vs non-guaranteed columns; gift limits (GL25 theme) matter—buyer takeaway: do not buy for gifts.
Maturity, death and surrender claims
Claimants may be owners, beneficiaries, assignees or designated parties under third-party policies. Death claims typically need proof of death, identity, policy and sometimes age; early deaths may face deeper review while contestable. Surrender pays cash/surrender value after charges and loans—not a full premium refund. Complaint-bureau mindset: wording and facts beat emotion—this site teaches issue types, not case narratives.
Study tips
- Write how you will confirm the cooling-off start date in writing
- Replacement checklist: old guarantees, new waiting periods, new clocks, costs
