Interview prep pack
Before meeting a licensed intermediary: checklist entry, IA verification steps, eight interview questions, red-flag scripts. Take it with you—or book a soft session to organise questions.

01
Start from the self-check list
Generate a personalised question list first, then bring the eight questions below to the meeting.
02
IA verification steps
- Open the Insurance Authority (IA) public register entry (use the live official page).
- Ask them to show licence proof; copy the name and licence number.
- Check publicly that the number is valid and the category matches the business you are discussing.
- If verification fails or they refuse to provide a number: stop signing and paying.
03
Eight interview questions
- Q1. In one sentence: which duty event / purpose does this proposal solve for me?
- Q2. Versus my existing group / Mainland / HK cover, which layer is the gap? Please write it down.
- Q3. How are guaranteed vs non-guaranteed amounts separated—and which figures are not promises?
- Q4. If I must exit in year 3 or 5, what order of magnitude is the guaranteed cash value?
- Q5. If policy, premium and household currencies differ, who explains the FX consequences?
- Q6. Please show the licence number and demonstrate the IA check; have important facts been provided in writing?
- Q7. What are the in-person signing, policy delivery date, and cooling-off start / written cancel steps?
- Q8. What is the exact premium payee name and how do I get a receipt—is any private collection involved?

Script red flags ↔ replies
Red flag
“If you don’t sign today, this term / quota disappears.”
Your reply
Put any deadline in writing; I need to co-read documents at home. Urgency = red flag.
Red flag
“Guaranteed return / guaranteed to beat / you will definitely profit.”
Your reply
Label guaranteed parts only; treat non-guaranteed as variable. Guaranteed-profit scripts = stop.
Red flag
“We can finish everything onshore / sign first, we’ll supplement papers.”
Your reply
In-person signing and written disclosure are not optional; sign-first-supplement-later = stop. See compliance checklist.
Red flag
“Pay premiums to my private account / use a collector.”
Your reply
Institutional payee paths and official receipts only. Private collection = stop.
Red flag
“Your old policy is definitely a loss—switch to a new one today.”
Your reply
Demand a written old-vs-new sheet; same-day switch urgency = red flag. See the existing-policy scenario page.
Red flag
“The illustration cap is basically guaranteed / in the contract.”
Your reply
Illustration caps are regulatory discipline—label guaranteed columns only. See /intermediary-check and the encyclopedia.
Red flag
“No FNA / suitability needed—just trust me.”
Your reply
Ask for a written FNA; draft first with /needs/fna-template. Refusing paperwork = red flag.
Red flag
“We’ll rebate / split kickbacks with you.”
Your reply
Refuse. High conflict of interest—see the licence-check red-flag table.
